Encore at Villefranche-sur-Mer

Friday's classes dove into the wonder that is...history!  Pauline's classes were asked to write a little bit about the ancestry of their families, again to explore the past tense, but also to prepare them for that days' mini-excursion in Nice.  Both classes visited l'Eglise Russe.  Unfortunately the inside is under renovation, so only the exterior was available to visit, but exterior is stunning.  (Here is where I would post in a photo, but try as I might, I couldn't get it to work.  You'll just have to google it.  Sorry.)

After making a picnic lunch, we were off once again to the train station to go back to Villifranche-sur-mer.  This time the train was only late by 10 minutes so I'd say that was vast improvement from Wednesday's journey.  Fun, fun, fun in the sun!

Then we had dinner in a lovely sea-side restaurant.  Just look at our view!

Some of the students opted to try moules.  Mussels with fries is a very common dish for the south of France.  I went for the steak-frites.  A chacun leur gout!

And then to cap off our day, and the reason we came back to Villefranche-sur-mer,was a movie en plein air, at the top of hill in the ruins of a chateau.  It was part of a series of films that celebrate the life and work of a well-known local director, Marcel Pagnol, whose work dates from the 1940s  The film started 1/2 hour late and then even later after an unannounced 30 minute talk by the director's grandson.  So to make the last train back to Nice we had to leave after only seeing 20 minutes of the actual movie.  C'est la France!  It was still worth it.

Tomorrow's a big day.  Monaco for some and Menton for others.  Write back soon!
