Allons Enfants de la Patrie...
Was everyone singing La Marseillaise today, or was it just me? Raise your hand if you've seen Casablanca (my hand is raised) and you're replaying the scene in the bar when the Germans are carousing and singing German songs and the French patriot Victor Laszlo rouses the other bar patrons to drown out their song with La Marseillaise. Oh, the tears. But I'll get back to that later.
The morning classes talked about the history of July 14th, le jour de la Bastille. Why the French revolted, what they wanted from their new government, and what the national holiday means today.
That theme was also echoed in the conversation club, but instead of tennis courts, it was the beach. If you're into French History like I am, you got that reference.
In Jacob's photography class the kids went up to Mont Boron and practiced "changing aperture to control depth of field" in pictures. Raise your hand if you don't know what that means. (My hand is raised.)
But whatever. Look how cute they are!
Then for our night activity we of course went to the Promenade des Anglais to watch the feux d'artifice. Superbe!
Tomorrow is the exquisite Musée Matisse in the morning and then the medieval town Saint Paul de Vence in the afternoon. Vive la France!
